I'm Cuba is a selection of movie posters produced in Cuba between the 1950s and the 1980s. The many concepts and forms in them go from decorative to symbolic, from comic to serious, from expressive to surreal. Produced in the decades following the Cuban Revolution of 1959, they also reflect a unique state of mind, infused with a deep sense of individual liberty and youthful revolutionary fervor, in this case not as much political as aesthetic. We get a glimpse of the restless Cuban genius, which makes of something so disposable as a street cartel a statement of strong ideals and a flood of creativity. The work behind this collection is also to be admired: the research, restoration and analysis of art pieces that struggle with time and tropical conditions, moreover with those that believe they are just well-designed publicity without recognising their value. This book definitely proves them wrong.
